with John1 again, I see no obvious prongs of another repunch of the mintmark.

Agree flattened, probably from a hit in a bag.

Please no disrespect, but the coin comes from an OBW roll of 1953-s and is a gorgeous golden satin color. This in itself doen't mean it wasn't damaged post mint. I have two more almost identical. The coin had another issue at the top where a chuck of copper came off or something obstructed the strike. A close inspection at the mintmark seems like a Cud there? But heck I am still a dumbass I will post closer pictures. You guys may very well be right.

hopefully this image is better. doesn't it appear that there is a "s" under the flattened one?

Maybe it's different than any discovered yet. LOL

The possibility of something striking just the mint mark with no evidence of contact around the marks or anywhere else on the coin is unlikely but stranger things have happened. It truly doesn't matter to me I will give it away more than likely.

Your image is much better and as mentioned previously it has taken a hit and the mint mark has been flattened.

Or even a coin counter/vending machine can damage the devices on a coin. Not a mint error. Happened after it reached circulation.

I disagree. In the last picture it looks like an S over S tilted. Or it could be the lighting.
