I know a few of you out there know this answer. I have looked through 10,000 of these and I don't think I found one yet. Maybe the 1964-d has some? I mean complete steps and complete pretzels.

A pretzel isn't complete until salt is added.

FS examples from 60-65 can be found. The problem is the rest of the coin usually sucks.

The area you're referring to is called the cornice. I've never thought of the design there as a pretzel. LOL The top edge is one of the first places memorial cents show wear since it's a high point of the reverse. That area also often shows strike weakness and is often malformed.

The first two rows of steps near the middle is the toughest. You see both die wear and incomplete die filling in that area.

There's a hit on the steps but this is the fullest example I could ever find. The steps are complete.

My 1964 is in a slab, decent steps on it. I bought it for the toning. If you find a 64 with full steps, it would be a great find IMO.

My 1965 is a strike thru grease. This was a horrible years for Lincolns. Yes, they made billions and 99+% of those are crapola. I gave up on the steps because this is literally the nicest one I've found. Just also happens to be an error coin.

The "pretzels" are actually wreaths, you can see them well in this high res pic.

Cannot contribute other than the fact I'm now really really craving a salted pretzel with mustard.

That is so interesting, I think I would like to go see the Lincoln memorial for myself. Thanks for that pic. I can't explain it, but I want to learn everything in detail about the cent.

I thought this was an old German food custom.
