I know a few of you out there know this answer. I have looked through 10,000 of these and I don't think I found one yet. Maybe the 1964-d has some? I mean complete steps and complete pretzels.

A pretzel isn't complete until salt is added.

FS examples from 60-65 can be found. The problem is the rest of the coin usually sucks. The area you're referring to is called the cornice. I've never thought of the design there as a pretzel. LOL The top edge is one of the first places memorial cents show wear since it's a high point of the reverse. That area also often shows strike weakness and is often malformed. https://www.google.com/search?q=cor...ome&ie=UTF-8

The first two rows of steps near the middle is the toughest. You see both die wear and incomplete die filling in that area. 1960D SD

1961P There's a hit on the steps but this is the fullest example I could ever find. The steps are complete.

Cannot contribute other than the fact I'm now really really craving a salted pretzel with mustard.

Great looking cents, BadThad! Quote: The "pretzels" are actually wreaths, you can see them well in this high res pic.

Quote: The "pretzels" are actually wreaths, you can see them well in this high res pic. That is so interesting, I think I would like to go see the Lincoln memorial for myself. Thanks for that pic. I can't explain it, but I want to learn everything in detail about the cent.
