That's a real stunner for sure! I've only ever seen one like it and they weren't selling it. Great coin, great pick up.

Thanks Chase007 and Tropicalbats!
What do you think of that reverse anomaly?

It's kind of odd-looking, but shows the indications of damage.

Thanks TB, The area on the reverse does resemble damage but a closer look seems to indicate die damage. The top right part of the M is surrounded but unaffected also the top bar of the E is unaffected though it appears part of the damage goes through it. It looks a jagged chunk was taken out of this die by something. Just my guess though.

I agree that this is probably the first impression from a clashed cap. As for the irregularity on the reverse, it looks like post-strike damage to me. Tellingly, the horizontal scratch that connects the M and E shows displaced metal along its margins.

Thanks for the replies CCF and thanks to Mike for taking a look as well. I've added a couple more photos of the reverse irregularity. I realize that overall this shouldn't be the focus of this coin but I wanted to make full use of my photo equipment to help show what I see in hand under a loupe. While I agree the margin of the "scratch" looks like displaced metal and therefore PMD on a closer look it appears it could be part of the design or structure of whatever caused the feature. The margin, while slightly raised, seems oddly inconsistent in form. The bigger picture for me here is again, the M and E are evading disfigurement due to being lower on the die face. This is a sign of a mint made error from what I've learned. The gouge on the rim also seems to have an outline of sorts. Again, likely inconsequential and unattributable but just doesn't fit the PMD definition completely.

Wow! That's one marvelous and beautiful coin, amazing buy! As to the scratch, I agree that it's PMD based on the metal movement. The scratch that connects with the E as well. I believe what you're showing is coincidencial, in relation to the disfigurement of the "ME." As in, the scratch is not apart of the distortion of "ME." That's my Two Cents, I could very much be wrong however.
