I got this today in my change and wasn't even going to post it because of the massive gouge appears to be damage. The thing I'm confused about is the extra metal and pitting going on under the lettering and on top. What doo you think caused this?

PMD moisture and corrosion causing more pitting and plating lift imo.

My guess would be the coin was heated and then cleaned.

It does look like there is some weld spatter on the fields.
