I would like to recommend everyone here get one of these:

Highly-Recommended:-Max-Hd50ds-Flat-Clinch-Stapler

The MAX HD50DS Standard Duty Flat-Clinch Stapler which I got from Brent-Krueger. It's wicked slick. Until I got it, all my 2x2s were stapled with a normal stapler. Now they all stack flat and never dent album pages. Plus, it's 1/5 the work of using a regular stapler and needle-nose pliers. Highly recommended. My 2c.

Yep, that is an excellent stapler. I have its baby brother, the HD-10DFL, and that one is a palm-sized stapler.

Flat staple is better than the curved ones. I have seen many coins ruined by staple scratches. Worth the investment if you store in 2X2's.

What size staples do these take? The standard is it 26? size? I'm looking for a flat clinch stapler that takes the smaller no. 10 size staples.

I need to get me one of those. Actually, I need to get into a time machine and go back 10 years and give one to myself as a gift. Last summer I decided to "clinch" the rounded staples in all of my 2 X 2s using a needle nose pliers. As a dark side collector of everything, I have a LOT (I'd guess at least 13000). Every week or so I go through a box. It is fun to get a chance to see my collection again, one piece at a time (I keep a catalog open while doing it). However, after a box, I need a week break to let the blisters heal.

I use the highly versatile Sear flat clinch "needle nose pliers". Same result for a cheapskate like me.

Me too. But not all the time. On most standard Swingline staplers that sold everywhere, the striking plate is turnable easily. However, many are not square so you can only turn them 180 degrees which means toe in or toe out. If you find one with a square plate, turn it 90 degrees and it will flatten staples and you can use standard staples.
Had on but it broke so now use a pliers.
Also, a pliers called Home Improvement Tools #H1012 has a large flat end that will flatten both sides of the staple at one stroke.

Read your recommendation back in January when you posted it. Thought I would pick one up from one of the local office supply stores. Just have not had or made the time - think I'm way to busy lately. Saw a dealer using one this weekend at a coin show. Ordered one today from Brent-Krueger on-line - should have done that months ago. After 4 months I can now mark this off my to-do list, if I can find it.

Very good recommendation. A must have in my opinion. I was using an old Bates 56 that you had to pound to get to work and it punched in the old type staple that I would use plyers on. This MAX HD50DS Standard Duty Flat-Clinch Stapler works great. Now I have less frustration, but guess I can drag out the old Bates if I need to take my frustrations out on something.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but the subject Flat Clinch Stapler is currently priced lower on Amazon. They're selling it for $16.87 right now, so I finally pulled the trigger. This model has been recommended umpteen times on CCF over the past several years (search "flat clinch") so I'm confident I won't be disappointed.

Just thought I'd give a heads up in case anyone else was on the fence about making this purchase. I, for one, am looking forward to not having to clinch three staples with pliers every time I put a coin in a flip from here on!

Bobby, doesn't the HD-11 use mini staples? I know the HD-50 uses standard size staples.

Either way, with your endorsement of the smaller model I'm sure the full size model will be just as great!

Since I posted in this thread 4 years ago I have moved to Saflips and never looked back. I haven't stapled a 2x2 in years.
