Found this very nice AU 1920 clipped Wheat cent. My first one. *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I don't see anything resembling the blakesly effect on this coin, I think the clip is not legit. Just my humble opinion though.

I don't see any tapering near the rim, metal flow along the clip or blakesley effect opposite the clip. I don't think this is a genuine clip. PMD in my opinion

Me I look for three factors for clip coins versus fake:
1. Blakesley effect 2. Fishtailing and Radial Metal Flow 3. Strike Weakness
On this coin I do not see any of this markers.
I ask side photo to confirm the fake procedure, and also for education purpose to show the sides angles of the clip.

The first marker Blakesley effect is easy to find on the net.
the others also but is only for evaluation.
The side photo show not a genuine clip. Sorry.

I'm not sure it would grade as AU either, come to think of it...there's very definite wear showing.

Ok here is what I see: This is Not a valid clip from the mint As you can By the image I put up where the arrows indicate, it would appear that the coin tilted as the cut was initiated, in a clip created by the mint during the creation of the blank you would not see this 'angling' at the corners, it will be bent or turned down towards the center of the blank. Then when the blank is sent through the upsetting stage to create the proto rim, you should see a weakness on the opposite side of the 'clip' (Blakesley effect) [do a search for this term].

It does not look like a genuine clip, uneven cut and as mentioned: no blakesley effect

Keep in mind that the Blakesley isn't always present on large clips. I agree with everyone and believe this is damage.
