A Cud is directly attached to the rim so this I not a Cud. This is what's called a filled 9 and fairly common. To sum it up it's a die chip.

Yes exactly--a die chip. Fun to find, but pretty common. @pea, if you look in the CCF glossary, you will see all kinds of helpful definitions.

But it is not a post. All the Lincoln Cents have open 6's and 9's. Other denominations have closed devices. But on the Lincoln cents they are all open ones.
