hi I'm trying to see what everyones opinion on the value/grade of my dime would be. So I like to metal detect and found this coin yesterday in a field that in october my buddy found an 1835 capped bust Half Dime that came out in good shape. It was amazing to use that they were in such good condition considering the field is plowed 2 or 3 times a year for different crops. When I found the coin it was totally encapsulated with dirt and only the rim showing so I know I didnt hit it with my shovel, with that being said I know there is some damage to rim and some scratches on the reverse, It also appears to have [possible die crack as there is a raised line connecting the tips of both the threes The coin was not cleaned but was sprayed with water to remove dirt and has been handled/rubbed with fingers. I'll try to include pics of the damage on rim and relief and details as best as possible. Thanks for your opinions!

I love stories like this. It is a found treasure! I do not think it is valuable or worth submitting--the story of digging it out of the earth is more valuable!

Well done! That is a remarkable find!!

Considering it spent a lot of it's life underground, it has been affected environmentally from its original state. A TPG would most likely say VF Details Environmental Damage. From a financial perspective, this is not worth the money to send in for a details grade. This would be a perfect type coin in an album.

I'd guess an estimated $40-$50 value.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Great story! For a detector find, the coin looks pretty crisp.

Someone posted about an 1802 dime they found on this forum not too long ago. I can't even imagine the feeling of finding these items--especially dimes, my favorite denomination!
