Hello CC Family!

Found this cent that at first glance looks to be severely damaged, (as it may still be).

However, on the coins obverse, it appears the part of the coin between the grooves is slightly larger in diameter with a thicker rim, and thicker than the coin outside the grooves, as well as detail remaining in the grooves, (9 in 1929 still legible). With almost no damage on the reverse with only the thicker rim being apparent.

Not sure how this could happen. It looks almost as if the middle of one coin was squished on top of another.

Love to hear your thoughts, Thanks!

Some sort of post-mint damage ( PMD), probably deliberate.

That is a crazy coin. Not sure how somebody could have done that. Certainly not with diagonal cutters as there are no cut marks on the reverse.

@wbar, for sure that's damage. I wonder though can you please post a photo of the edge? I'm wondering if that middle section has a step on it kinda like Israeli phone tokens.

A side view of the coin could tell more. Never see like this before.

Damage is damage however it was done. This coin is the poster child for post mint damage.

I Looked up some images of the tokens and I can see what you mean. The edge appears to be thicker in the middle by a hair. what's interesting is there are cut grooves here as well.
