I have a 1943 D from a Wheat penny grab bag I believe is a D over D. Up close it looks like there is an underlying D south-southwest of the stamped D. I just need another opinion.

@csp, have you looked at the varietyvista site on these RPMs yet? Here is a link to the right page to get you started.

I do see one SW RPM this is off by about the right amount (001), but you will need to compare the mm location and other die markers to confirm.

On a RPM, you need to see two or more punching. Yours is not showing that. That one is normal. Even having a large mintmark, doesn't make a RPM.

This is not a RPM. No evidence of a second punching. So many happened, the evidence of a second or third are all missing. Not a RPM. RPMs ended in 1989. In 1990, the mintmarks were part of the design, thus ending RPMs. Since then when you see a spread on a mintmark, it is not a RPM, but a doubled die.

Now how the devices are larger and it shows a split serif, but that is now part of the DDO.

This is an image of RPM-001.I looked at these before and I see this RPM in my penny, or am I just seeing something that isn't there. I see the raised image of the second MM below and to the left of the MM in my image above.
