Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 01/10/2022 2:27 pm I have been following this auction for a while. https://coins.ha.com/itm/french-col...-dailystatus This 1670 15 sols is considered to be a Canadian colonial coin and with the exception of the 1670 2 sols and the 1911 dollar is perhaps the scarcest of Canadian coins. This is the first one up for auction in quite a while and is one of perhaps a handful out there. I would not be surprised to see it break $100,000. At one stage when I got back into coins I mulled trying to get one of these (I have the 5 sols) but I am not pursuing this one........ Report this Post to the Staff

Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 01/10/2022 11:39 pm Just as a PS DBM.... Obviously there is debate and no real proof about where the 1670 coins were sent and circulated. However, my grandfather picked up two of the 5 sols in Ottawa between around 1900 and around 1930 along with many, many hundreds of pre-Confederation tokens and essentially no other coins from French colonies. These examples may have migrated from a distant French colony to Ottawa from at some point after 1670 and before 1930. That would have taken a pretty unusual set of circumstances to happen. I would be much more inclined to believe that they came to Canada in the early years of the French rule in Canada and stayed in Quebec/Ontario for the intervening years. So I will take the position that the 1670 coins did at least in part come here. Report this Post to the Staff
