I was thinking of selling this coin. Upon scanning the obverse I realized that there's pretty pronounced doubling. I'm assuming Machine Doubling. Is it worth keeping?
levelsofmadness, thanks for looking. The first image is a scan, which is a straight-on shot. Scanners are poor at picking up luster and toning, but I think they also minimize glare. I also see doubling with my loupe.
If you are using a scanner, try place a piece of dark material over the coin. That will help reduce glare on scans. Also use the highest setting for resonance. You will be happier with them and the devices will have more detail.
John1, I'm seeing doubling on most of the letters, and possibly the mint mark. I'm wondering if other members agree and if the coin is a good find or just meh.
