Dansco albums don't tone coins. Heck whitman folders don't tone coins. That's improper storage. You need to store all coins in a dry temperature stable location. I have Whitman folders that are have coins for over 30 years and the coins look like when I put them in.
I really don't believe that happened from the Dansco or from being be stored in So.LA . What about the other coins in that Dansco ? Did they turn also ?
I am editing my reply a little bit. I am sure it's from poor storage . It has to be! I have been told numerous times that copper reacts in funny ways. Not all the coins in the album toned but many are in various stages of toning in fact two albums. I will do a better job with my slabbed set. Twenty years ago I bought a 1931-s beautiful red one for 90 dollars and a 29-s for 40 d0llars both raw and a 1932 beautiful red for 35 dollars . All have since been slabbed. The 31-s came from an original roll bought off
ebay. I emailed the winner after the auction and he agreed to sell me one. It was red when I got it but graded 64 red brown. The 29-s stayed 64 red and the 1932 graded 66+. All from the same dansco. I didn't know any better. The best advice my LCD gave me 20 years ag0 was don't collect copper down here. I am tete deh
You are right and wrong in a way. These were indeed stored in a dansco album and put in a drawer and under my bed. Every two or three years I would take them out and look at them. Then it went about five years and covid started and when I took them out to look at them, several were toned. I have no reason to not tell the truth. I got on the forum in early July and have come a long way since then. My main problem is I cannot bring myself to invest and learn photography in addition to learning all about these coins. I did invest in a coin microscope which doesn't miss technical things when used properly. Well maybe hairlines because the scope is too powerful, and the proper color never matches up to the naked eye. Maybe the scope will, and I haven't figured it out yet. There are several of you who have been extremely helpful and blunt at times. I have learned years ago that an email or post or text is usually taken out of context. I could quickly think that this post implied I was lying or just making it up. I am sure this happened from improper storage. It gets hot and humid here then cold and humid here and they were not in a safe nevertheless they did tone in my dansco and they toned from nature. (and bad storage!)
