My favourite Australia coin!! 1934/35 Melbourne Centenary Florin - gEF and very scarce. Just 75,000 were minted and sold at a 50% mark up during the depression. As a result 21,000 were remelted and only 54,000 are left. The coin is the rarest florin issued by Australia and one of the most collectible. An important Australian coin for an important day in Australian history - Fair dinkum. 26th January 1788 was the day the flag was raised at Proclaimation Point and the European settlement of New South Wales began. Australia itself came into being as the Commonwealth we know today on January 1st 1901 at the Royal Exhibition Hall in Melbourne! NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 18008 Posts	Posted 01/26/2022 03:22 am I'll celebrate Australia Day by posting a picture of my 1925 Australian penny, which set me back all of 3p (three new pence in British money) in the 1980s from a dealer's junk tray in the old Arches collectors' market by Charing Cross Station in London. At the time I didn't even realise it was a key date - I just noticed the dealer had put some Australian pennies into his cheap tray so I just pulled out as many ones with different dates that I could find before it was time for my train home!
