These are seller's photos and may not provide enough resolution. I was wondering if there is a die chip in the crook of the "8" or if that is something else? Any opinions welcome. Thanks for looking.

It is a die chip and quite common on mid to late die state coins and will not get much mention if any at all.
Beyond that, 1879-P is a tough nut to crack ( VAM).
