Certainly not a specimen coin, but one of the more interesting in the collection. What's your thoughts on authenticity and grade? Thanks again for your opinions.

Most Trade dollars have old cleanings -- European traders & wholesalers especially would wash them as a matter of course -- and while I can't tell from your photos, it's likely this one is no different. TPGs often give them a break unless the cleaning is particularly harsh or seems recent.

The details on your coin are VF-ish. The rim distress would detail it at a TPG. Given the rim issues and the common date, it isn't a good slab candidate.

Shame about the rim damage, surfaces on this one look more original than most. I'm at VF30 Details, rim damage.

Can you get a close up of the hand that holds the branch? There appears to be only 3 fingers as was used on a type 1. 1878 only used the type 2 design that had four fingers.

VF-30, decent looking coin apart from the rim dings.
Suffering from bust half fever.
