Question for the group. Is it possible for the mint to hand punch an S over E on the reverse. Any kind of input would be helpful. Thanks

What your coin is showing in that area is a contact mark, considered damage. They did not hand punch any other area of the coin except the mintmark on that year.

Agree, this is the product of circulation damage and coincident toning.

It almost looks like a lamination peel to me, but with the above that die workers didn't punch any other detail on the dies except for the mintmark area.

Do not show characteristics of ex-foliation of this type of alloy employed. This year was bronze alloy, this case the RB diversity and I do not see any structural marks.

I see some very minuscules cracks in material due to age, environment and post strike forces applied.

Well I'm on team lam too with @mrw. That looks like a tiny lamination between the E and S.

I want to thank everyone for the input. If the question is never asked, an answer will never be known.

There's also another issue on reverse ,right above the O in ONE is a die break or lamination peal .
