I am beginning to wonder about the actualy scarcity of this doubled die. Just in the past two months a total of three examples have been found and posted on various boards. It has always seemed to be scarce, but maybe it's more common than we thought.

The nice thing about finding a doubled die like this is that you know it is very nice and you have no question about it!

With the identification of the DDR for this date, I think more people are looking at the 1982's with a little more attention. I know personally, the dates with the major varieties get a closer look from me. Just a thought. Mike

And there in itself lies an important lesson...
Until Ziggy's discovery of a major doubled die reverse 1982 cent, there were no doubled dies known for 1982 cent reverses....so you wouldn't have been checking them, thus would have absolutely zero chance of discovering it.
The point is, LOOK AT EVERYTHING. Don't ONLY look at the dates that have known die varieties. Somebody had to have discovered all of them at one time or another.
