And again, I'm sorry if I offended anyone with the robot comment, I will admit there were some adult beverages consumed prior to and the comments looked identical to the ones I'd just rec'd 2 days before, after 1st post

So either way this coin is not worth anything? Like not even 1 cent, as a store clerk would likely think it was from some type of board game with fake money

don't worry about the robot quip, it was funny, and some of us like to take it and run with it.
Is it worth more than one Cent? most likely not, sorry

We have seen so many of coins like this and that, that we have probably just have come up with a standard answer to them.

No no nothing to be sorry about, I'm just thankful for the help! I'm rather new to collecting, but have a paw-in-law that was big into it a cpl decades ago and my 94 yo grandfather, that worked in banks all his life was also, so I've been given a pieces of both collections, now I'm completely consumed with it, to the point my wife is accusing me of having some mid life crisis or medical condition

My grandfather once took me to his safety deposit box as a kid, to show me his collection and I can remember being amazed back then, not knowing anything about coins! That's my next step, taking him back to that box to see what he has

1. With plating missing, that is usually an indication of a Texas Cent. When creating these, they squeeze the coin to make it larger. When this happens, then the plating falls off the coin. It may have had a bezel added to it. So if the coin is larger than a normal cent and the weight is over 2.5 grams, that may be the case. 2. If it is same size as a normal cent, the coin may have had zinc added to the surface and a bezel was added. The weight will be over because of the bezel and the glue added to hold it in place. 3. If the thickness is thicker than a normal cent, it may have been in a dryer for a time. But it looks like something was added to the rim like a bezel. So which one happened, it doesn't matter, it is damage to the coin. It was not struck that way. Just a face value coin. But not a silver coin. There wasn't silver planchets that year at the mint. It is just a 2.5 zinc cent.

Well if you want to learn, you found a great place to do it. Bear in mind, the folks here won't candy-coat it. If your coin is nothing special, you will be told just that, On the reverse, if it is something to behold you will be told that as well.

There are many amazing members on here that are very knowledgeable and just want to help. The more info you can share the better, a scale is cheap and weight is important in many cases with coin errors. Size is also important, if smaller, larger or thicker is important as well.

The only scale I currently have only weighs in whole grams, so don't think it'll help but the diameter seems same as other pennies, but it is definitely a lil thicker

Then it sounds more like a Dryer Coin, but a bezel will also make the coin thicker as it adds a top bottom to the thickness.

Ok here is a topic on ' Dryer Coins' http://goccf.com/t/143863None of the coins displayed on that topic shows a perfect ring around the coin like the one in this topic. The depth of the 'fold over' is even and consistent all the way around on both sides. I have a HUGE problem believing that this is a Dryer Coin.
