Sorry about the second picture being upside down. Coin weighs 8.1 so it can't be a filed Down one right? Since that's the correct weight

There is a mint Weight Tolerance to factor in. I do not see this as an error or variety. To me it looks like circulation wear.

That could very well be for this coin, however the PCGS does recognize weak edge lettering as an error.

PCGS recognizes a lot of things that most numismatists would agree are not errors (if it were up to me, things like "no FG," "three legged bison," "floating roof," etc. Would just be listed as "die abrasion"). I would not consider weak lettering to be an error as it's most likely just caused by normal wear and tear on the collar die after striking hundreds of thousands of coins. If one were struck with *no* edge lettering due to some mix up with the preparation of the collar itself, then I'd consider it a legit variety.

Not how it works on a business strike dollar coin edge lettering, it's a separate step from the strike on a castigating machine.

proof strikes have a 3 segment collar and the lettering is done with the strike, but the business strikes are a separate step.

the separate step is why they have blank, run through 2x or 3x, or position A and Pos. B alignments, and "weak edge lettering".

Although I have to say it's pretty useless even bothering for weak edge lettering on a circulated coin, the edge lettering wears down quickly.

The Proof coins have all three sides at the same time.

Thanks for the fact check @Big-Kingdom! Haven't spent much time on small dollars and just assumed it was done this way.
