It could be a modern cast or a fouree, which is an ancient counterfeit having a base metal core covered with silver. Often the base metal core can be seen "showing through" the thin silver covering. I cannot find comparables online, but it almost looks too good to be an ancient. I have only handled about 75-100 fakes and they all have obvious artificial age and patina. It has a noticable dent from striking or added to deceive. It didn't feel like silver weight. It's about -25mm I'm green, but I thought fake... Any chance it's real? The edge is wrong in any case - it looks like it's been (badly) milled, perhaps to fit it in jewellery. Report this Post to the Staff

I haven't seen A LOT of these, but the seamed coins looked fairly easy to detect. I think you might be right about it being mounted in jewlery, but made for jewlery? Thanks for your response.
