I have an old Dansco half dollar album that is missing 10 plastic slides.Thinking of buying a clear sheet of plastic at an arts and craft store. Any ideas or what should I look for? Contacted Dansco and they told me to buy new half dollar page but they wont have one for at least a month!!!!

Make sure it is Mylar, one's that is used for archival purpose, its the same material used in storing valuable comic books.
There are different thickness of course.

Make sure it is Mylar... Mylar will probably not work because I am not sure you will find it in a rigid and thick variety. I am pretty sure the Dansco slides are cellulose acetate. |

to the Community! Get you a few high quality large size Mylar currency sleeves and use those to make you new inserts for your Dansco album. I figure you should be able to make about 4 inserts out of each currency sleeve. A good pair of scissors is a must! Good luck! |

Reason for Mylar is that it will not stain or contaminate over period of time, as long as it stored in some control environment. If temperature and humidity fluctuate often, nothing would help.

Use a metal straight edge and an x-acto type knife with a new blade.
Or a high-quality guillotine cutter.

I have no experience with these, but if they are rigid and thick enough they will work.  They need to be rigid to get into place and thick to stay in place. Something too thin might crimp or buckle when sliding into place. |

Side story and is not numismatic, so if not interested just skip:
During the 1980's, I and my brother as teen was a avid comic book collectors, we regularly visit our local comic stores, and the one we frequent visit has one customer that would purchase one each of new comics from the well known publishers (Marvel, DC, and some Independents during that time.) He would buy these Mylar sleeves. I think is called TimeLok, they were expensive then and pick out the best condition comic books each month and sealed them individually, once sealed, the only way to take the book out is cutting the seal. Thereby ruining the protection it provided.
Fast forward into present date, these comic books is as pristine as the day they were printed, and I'm sure the collection is well worth into seven figures today.

I used the slides from an old Whitman Std Lib quarter album. Got some new exacta kinife blades and used the Dansco slides as a guide.Works fine a bit shorter but does the trick coins totally protected

The slides in my WWII medals album won't budge and I'm afraid of damaging them (or the album's pages). While I would like to photograph these high relief medals out of the album holes, I can't risk damaging the album.
Wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue successfully and the methodology. Thanks !
