Hello,

I saw this token today and believe it is a radiant eagle $5 gaming token.

Information online appears wildly disparate... Some date these to 1850 and others 1930-1950. Does anyone have a link or any reliable information on pegging these down, place, age, rarity, etc.?

Also, what is NYS Co?

Thank you all!

Best,

R.

That would probably be Rulau.

I see a couple similar pieces on tokencatalog.com:

http://tokencatalog.com/token_recor...rd_offset=17

http://tokencatalog.com/token_recor...rd_offset=23

What is most interesting about your piece is that the denomination and issuer seem to be counterstamped on the token. In other words, I wonder if a generic token was modified with punches (5 on one side and N, Y, S, C, and O on the other. Also yours appears to be in a bezel, whereas the other examples are just the bare token. Not that I would remove it though.

Hi Spence, thanks for your reply. Is Rulau another forum member?
I found this link https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/periodical/15810 it looks like some were in bezels... Maybe a way to prevent counterfeiting?
Looks like they were sufficiently rare in 1973 haha ... But what wasn't rare in 1973 ... Looking forward to learning more...

Sorry for not being more specific @roma. You will want to review this prior CCF thread, with loads of information on token books and websites, including, "Standard Catalog of United States Tokens 1700-1900" by Russell Rulau.
