Hi all.

Can anyone advise me on how best to age a cleaned 1920 penny. I believe these may be worth more than your average penny, but the one I have has been dipped to clean off the tarnish. See scans.

How do I make it look old again?

Can anyone grade this for me. If the picture is clear enough.

Thanks

Go back in time, find the scum who cleaned it in the first place, and stop them from doing it.

Seriously, just as it's all but impossible to make an old coin "look like new", it's only slightly easier to make a cleaned coin "look like old".

Most of the collectors who say "Never clean your coins!" would probably say about your coin, "It's too late - there's enough damage been done already. Don't make it worse by trying to cover it up.". They'd leave it alone and let time heal the damage.

I can't tell if restoration efforts would be worthwhile for this coin - the pics aren't detailed enough to tell if there's any serious pitting. But, if you want to have a go with this coin, you might find some ideas in this other thread about retoning coins.

Stick it on top of your shed and let the eliments do their work...12 months and it will resemble what it should look like.

I was going to say wait 80 years but Bigfellas idea will probably work and be much quicker.

Thanks Guys.

I don't think I've got 80 years, so maybe the shed roof might be the way to go, or being in the automotive trade,I might get an old oily rag and try the method suggested by Coppercoins in the other thread.

Thanks all for your responses.

Place it between your sock and the leather in your shoe and wear it for a weekend (at the top of the shoe works best).
