Hi all,

Apart from certain series for which I intend to try and collect the full set, I have decided to only collect world coins with lowish mintages (say less than 10 million).

Unfortunately there are many coins that for whatever reason do not have their mintages listed in Krause, numista etc

I hang on to most coins that come my way that were issued before 1900, so I am really only asking about 20th and 21st century coins.

I would be very interested to hear of any such coins that other members of this forum suspect to have lower mintages and thus deserve to be included in my world coins collection.

Thanks in advance.

Some years ago I had a Swiss gold coin that had a listed mintage of 54 pieces.

OzLeigh, there are no mintage figures for coins from Biafra, but I suspect they may be low mintages going by the price some sell for.

I stand to be corrected, but as I understand it,
the Biafran coins were struck in Switzerland and sold to raise money for the rebel forces.

Thanks triggersmob,

I must admit I had never heard of Biafra until a few days ago when some of us noticed that numista includes them as Nigerian coins.

But then again I didn't know Hutt River Province was in Western Australia until I found a Prince Leonard coin and did some research to find where the heck it was from.

They didn't teach us much geography/history back when I was at school.

I went to Hutt River Province (Principality) a few years ago. I bought some stamps for my collection.
Wasn't really in to coins back then. HRP no longer exists my the way.

This is from a previous thread on CCF.
I can't confirm this.

"I think the aluminum coins (of Biafra) were for circulation. These were made in Portugal for Biafra. The silver/gold coins were for collectors and minted in Switzerland. Some new fantasy coins were minted in 2012, but those are just fantasies that reuse some of the original designs."

The Pobjoy Mint has been very reluctant at disclosing the mintages for Manx circulating coins for the last ten years or so when it made them. I imagine many of them will have low mintages, as by the mid-1990s the bubble had burst and fewer collectors from outside the island were buying annual sets.
