Been catching up on my 10 year hiatus collecting business strike coins. Bought 2009-2020 mints sets in us mint packaging on ebay. Just found out on this forum I'm missing the 2019 w cent! Didn't even know it existed! Glad I use 2x2's and a binder. All these added coins must drive dansco people nuts! I'm trying to not do what I've done in the past and run out and buy one. Prices seem kinda crazy! $25 for a mint packaged one! $35 and up for a slabbed one?! Does anyone feel the prices will go down eventually? Any discussion is appreciated on the topic of this new cool cent! Anyway, anything else I'm missing business strike wise that doesn't come in mint sets from 1959 to 2020 that you would consider for a business strike collection? I know about the satins. Still missing a bunch from when I set my collection aside 10 years ago. My LCS doesn't have any. Might have to go to ebay to finish up. If anyone can help see my trade/want list with the link below. http://goccf.com/t/414752

Quote: Does anyone feel the prices will go down eventually? Look at the 1996-W dime price trends, should be the same. You almost needed a 2020-W nickel as well. While they did release a proof and reverse proof with the proof sets (as they did with the cent in 2019), the 2020-W business strike nickel was nixed by COVID.

Well My opinion is, no I don't think the 2019 W cent is going to get any cheaper at this point, besides sjhopping around looking for the best deal or way to buy it. mintage was like 318,695 it's lower than either of the proof W cents they made. it is the lowest mintage business strike Lincoln Cent, but price will stay low on it as all are going to be in high grade condition forever, unlike the 1909S VDB. I don't think it's "really necessary" for a "business strike" collection though, but up to you where you set your parameters for your collection. I don't personally consider the satins of 2005-2010 as part of the "business strike" set either. you can buy the 2019 mint set without the cent for about $15-$20, with the cent in the range of $35-$45, ungraded W cent for $20-$25 or so, and a MS69 graded one for $25 -$39 depending on the day and the deal. If you have the mint set, sans the W cent, might be worth it just to buy a cheaper end W, graded or ungraded, when they appear. I was looking for some MS67 or lower, see where that was priced at, but that doesn't seem to exist for sale very often most being MS69 and some MS68s or 70s. Did you get the Zinc and Copper 2009 cents? the mint set had copper (older style) and satin finish, circulation strikes were zinc.

Perfect! Great info! I checked graded 1996w's and PCGS has almost a 60% reduction. Don't know why I didnt think of that! Thank you!
But the highest grade MS 69 has held its value and gone up. So, still have a dilemma to ponder. Ms69's of the cent are available now for $47. I'll have to dive into populations and make a decision.

There are S-mint business strikes for all the ATB Quarters 2012-2021. These were only available from the mint in rolls and bags. Also, W-mint quarters were released into circulation in 2019 and 2020.

W quarters are only available from circulation. You can't buy them from the mint.

I just have never cared for the shield cents, I have like 2 in my collection. These are NIFC, even with only 300k minted, there are plenty around and all will be in mint state. Coins like the SVDB and 14D circulated, the number of MS examples are way lower than the mintages indicate. No shield cent will ever achieve their collecting status IMO.

Totally agree with you Badthad! It's good the see you around here! I read everything you wrote 10+ years ago when I was kickin around before my hiatus. Still have a bottle of your juice and the eye dropper you sent me. I think I need a fresh one!
The only need for this cent is my OCD business strike completion. Picked one up at my LCD for $6. Problem solved! Although the population of MS 70's is appealing as a possible investment coin, that's not my game and can't pull the trigger on the prices they want now. Don't think the 69's will hold up value.
They W quarters are going to be a challenge this late in the game tho. Found three so far ms63-65. Might have to bite the bullet and go for graded examples. Online photos for these are dismal. Seems like everyone is trying to sell barely BU for $20 a coin. I gotta have high choice at least. Although my eyes aren't that good anymore so any choice coin looks good in my binder if I don't pick up a loop.

if it helps captainkurt, MS64-MS65 was about the average for the W quarters, 66 or higher becomes rare and gets costly. there's a couple designs that are short supply for sale, those sell for more than the others. If I were you, I'd buy them graded, PCGS or NGC (ANACS seems to be a grade higher than it should from what I've seen of how they graded them). And stick to MS65 which should be acceptable, and MS64 for those couple more expensive ones. I'd avoid the raw coins unless the pictures are supurb. lighting plays a huge factor and they can look scratched to heck, or near flawless depending on how the pictures were taken, so in my opinion, buying ungraded is a crapshoot even though it's cheaper. it could look like this: or like this: it's the same coin. I think buying graded is the best bet in getting what you want. most are very affordable in MS65, some even MS66.
