I recently won a 1879 Morgan. I personally have never had an interest in them but decided to check it out under a microscope. I noticed that there are areas of hair missing, hair that is not same as original design, the "M" on the neckline is missing lower past of the "V", only part of a leaf, etc. I do not see any type of post mint damage that would cause this and I cant find anything online. Any insight would be appreciated. I included a few photos of a few questionable parts. Thank you.

Can't accurately judge surfaces based on the first two pics. Pics aren't sharp enough and may need to work on that lighting to deal with the glare.

That said, based on the close up shots, looks like die polishing removed the areas in question. Given that those are both low relief points of the design, they would be one of the first to go with excessive die polishing, leaving the mid and high relief points surrounding it intact.

As stated above, it's an over polished die. Yours looks like a later die stage of VAM-50-2, maybe a new VAM. Check to see if you have the other markers. Nice close up pics.
