One-Sided-Old-Coin---A-Bit-Damaged---Help-Please

Hello everyone, thank you so much for letting me join this forum. I apologise if the attached image of this coin is obvious but I have spent the last 2 hours scouring the internet to see if I could find this same coin. I can't seem to find a coin with 7 stars and a woman's head.

Just wondering if someone could enlighten me.

The coin is light and only weighs 2.28grams and feels smooth on the back. I've had it tucked away for over 40 years.

Many thanks, Lea

. I do not think it is a coin at all. Token or medal made into jewelry, tie tack maybe?

The design looks a little like the Liberty Head on early US gold coins - maybe it was originally gilded and mounted on a piece of costume jewelry.

Thank you for your replies. I've had it for over 40 years. Were they making jewellery like this back in the seventies? Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a tie back? Also, if it was a coin at some stage, I can't seem to find a liberty head with only seven stars anywhere on the net. I've looked at so many liberty heads :) Just curious as to what it is. Many thanks,

Coin jewelry has been around for well over 100 years, examples can be found dating to the 1800s. A piece from the 1970s is not significantly unusual.

I don't believe it was ever a true coin, i.e., a piece authorized and issued by a Government as money. It appears to be a privately-struck token/medalet.

The bent piece of metal at the top of the piece suggests to me that It might have once hung from a ribbon/cord/chain. It also appears to have rim damage in multiple places. Such damage is often the result of being mounted on a piece jewelry/in a bezel.

Certainly a "costume jewellery replica", and not an actual coin. Whoever made it, made it specifically for mounting into jewellery, since they've only made it one-sided.

With those stars around the portrait, the design is perhaps supposed to resemble an American gold coin, like this one. Or perhaps it's supposed to be Queen Victoria, as she appears here on half-sovereigns, and the stars are just substitutes for letters. Remember, as costume jewellery, you aren't supposed to look at it too closely. It only needs to have an "at first glance" resemblance to a gold coin, and it would have looked much more "gold coin like" when the gilding was still intact.
