What's a common sense rule when dealing with silver coins. For instance, I have several US Half Dimes that are in tough shape. But they are old. Do you melt them or do you find someone who needs a date, no matter the condition?
Rest in Peace

You'll get some answers if you post full coin photos of them , obverse and reverse . Off hand I would say don't sell for melt .You won't get hardly anything for Half Dimes .

Even what we would consider junk silver coins might be desired by some other collector who might need that date, so no, melting them is probably not a good idea. quite well with T-bop. Since I love seated Liberty anything (as do other collectors), that is even more of not a good idea. There are even cull coins that have the potential to have significant value such as a key date or better date, or in your case, contains silver.

If I had some Half Dimes, no matter what shape they were in I would keep them. They make great conversation pieces (and they're cool)!

Unless they are completely unrecognizable, put them on ebay and they will surely get more than melt. Which I believe is under a buck each (!)

IO agree to put them on ebay. Ask for a few thousand dollars each and accept anything.

As a denomination, Half Dimes are waaaay too scarce to have any of them melted, irrespective of how poor the condition may be.

There will always be a collector out there who is looking for this denomination.
If you have a few of them, ebay them as bulk lot, with a 'buy it now' reserve of at least 2x bullion value.
I suspect that you will easily get a lot more than the minimum price.

If you are an enthusiastic coin collector, you should really keep all of them.
