I put small split rings through the holes before hanging them on the bigger ring. As the Coin Community slogan used to say "What's in your pocket?" That's where coins belong. I looked for the old slogan, which has been changed to something about education. That's fine but coins still belong in pockets. At least the new slogan mentions key.
