Hi all,

I have another coin thet I'm pretty sure is Sultanate of Malwa. Only problem is I can't find any close matches. The bilva leaf is a classic design seen on other coins but have not seen this style of leaf on a Malwa coin. Am now starting to doubt if it is Malwa at all.

Thanks

Size - 10-12mm
Weight - 1.8-2.0g

It does look to me like a probable Sultans of Malwa coin. The weight would indicate a quarter falus. In the list of mintmarks of the Sultans of Malwa in Goron & Goenka, the Bilva leaf is listed as used on the coins of Mahmud Shah II for the years of 923-928 AH. I don't see a photo in GG of a quarter falus of his with a Bilva leaf mintmark, but there were many variations of the fractional falus coins. So to summarize, my guess is that it is Sultans of Malwa, Mahmud Shah II, quarter falus, AH 923-928, even though I haven't found a matching coin in either GG or Zeno. Maybe another one of our members will be able to read the coin for you to either confirm or disprove this guess.

Presumably M185 - compare it to this one;

According G&G the swastika can be dated to AH917 (as per the coin on Zeno), those with the leaf AH921

Thanks AndyG and Seeker55. At least you've confirmed it as a Sultan of Malwa and getting the info as a 1/4 Falus is great. Will need to stick in my 'to do further research' pile. Cheers.
