I'm 72 and my first experience with coin collecting, like many others, was putting Lincoln cents into a Whitman folder. The Whitman folder is long gone and I have a modest collection of
Morgan dollars. They're all in either PCGS or NGC holders. My question is....I see many people talking about Dansco, CAPS, and even Whitman folders for storing their coin collection. I admit to being totally unfamiliar with these products in their current form (I'm not even sure if "CAPS" is a folder). Wouldn't placing silver coins into an album expose them to toning? When I had my Whitman folders (admittedly in the 50s) they were cardboard and I would think contact with that material would expose coins to possible toning. I have gold coins that are bullion in nature and they go into Air-tite holders. Years ago I had a collection of
Morgan dollars that I eventually sold, and I put all of those coins into Kointains which seemed to be a pretty nice product. I like the fact that you could safely handle the coins and it was almost like you were directly holding the coin. That was a bit long winded, but what I'm essentially curious about is, "Are coins, silver especially, safe if placed in modern coin folders?"
