Sorry, but no, it's just been whacked multiple times with a hammer.

As a general rule, a heavily circulated coin like this isn't going to have a dramatic mint error on it. If it came fresh out of the mint looking like that, people would either have refused to accept it as money or someone would have put it aside, thinking "that looks odd, I'll keep it". It wouldn't have circulated, so it wouldn't simply pass from hand to hand over and over again until it becomes worn, as this coin has.
