Cuds are only on the rim. So both are die chips.

The difference? A die chip is a small portion of the die that has broken off and leaving a void on the die. The bigger the chip, the larger the void. These are cvery common to find, especially on the newer coins.

A Cud is a life ender for the die. Only a few of these will be struck. The die will look something this:

The coins will show the outside edge of the die affected and the reverse opposite are will be weak because of the missing void on the opposite die will have no resistance there, thus it will be weak on that area. Hope this helps.
