I found this last night in my change. "1859" on the reverse looked doubled to me. I think there was some slight doubling on the "S" above "1859" as well.
to the forum. Alaska became a state in 1959. And I agree with John1. You could however look for a clash mark behind the ear, or doubled die on the claw.
The Alaska quarter is known to have die chips in between the claws it has been established already no doubled die. I have several Ala ska quarters with many die chips in between the claws as well as different areas of the coin IN GOD WE TRUST for instance There will only be die chips on the claws no doubled dies
I'm not sure how anyone can ascertain that there is no doubled die for any issue in existence. Perhaps that should be reworded to state that there are no doubled dies currently known for the issue - not that none exist.
Yes you right I did word it wrong sorry coppercoins
Yes die chips have been found in between the claws which have been mistaken for doubled dies that have been sold as a variety on ebay .and there not
There hasn't been any doubled dies associated in that area of the coin as of yet the claws. You could also see a die chip in the letter R in liberty as I stated.
I don't see any indications of doubling behind the ear I think the coin is damaged from circulation lots of marks on the fields
