@spark, first welcome to CCF. Second, we see coins with overly built up rims like this pretty often. Usually they are Dryer Coins. Can you please add cropped and in-focus pics of the front and back of this cent to the thread? Thx. Your edge pics are above average.

It appears to have a rolled rim. a common effect seen on Dryer Coins
To confirm, compare the weight with a standard Penny.

Because the rim seems to be dished, I would say that it was removed from an aluminum encasement, like the lucky penny advertisement pieces.
