Hi,
I'm just wondering if there is a 1975 Canadian dot penny (197.5)? Ive seen a couple posts from 2015 where someone had one. If this isn't in the Charlton, how does someone get this variety into the Carlton? Are there many of these and my search is just failing? Will ICCS acknowledge varieties if you don't inform them? Also should I use a q-tip with water to clean a Canadian penny? Is this attached photo considered a brown penny?

Thanks

It's a die chip.
Neither an error or variety.
No grading company will attribute it.
It will never be mentioned in Charlton's.
You would need at least ten volumes to include all die chips on Canadian coins.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Doesn't look like a die chips to me. Looks more like a stain or something, it doesn't look raised at all.

I think Die Deterioration is considered a variety technically but that doesn't make it rare or collectable as it's bound to happen on every year and denomination.

I believe I see a die chip just above the stain.
Die Deterioration is not a variety, technically or otherwise.
Every die starts to deteriorate from the moment the first coin is struck.

I increased the size and enhanced the photo, there is a stain but there is also a small
Die Chip above the stain which adds no value. Certainly not worth the cost of getting it graded.
And yes, it is a brown CENT

Hi

Thanks!
Ive been collecting since I was 6 years old but haven't retained or got the knack for grading and dialect.
Is this one considered excess die? Would this be worth sending away?
I looked it over with the loop 60x and it looks like it was done during manufacturing (not a scratch). I wish my IPhone took better pictures, I used my bfs for these.

As a comment, one of the best deals I got was several years ago in Nova Scotia, when an 18 year old was moving into his grandfathers house whom recently deceased. The kid sold me a binder with dollar bills, adding maybe 50 cents to face value. It turned out the 1$ bills were in such perfect condition that there were 3-6 in each folder slot in prestige condition and in series. The silver dollar binder he sold me, he didn't fully open the binder the full length, there were more than he counted and the jar of lose change he sold me for 20$ was from all over the world and had an antique gold ducat from Austria. His grandfather travelled and was a real collector.

This is a best 5 dollar penny if you can find a buyer, it would cost 30 bucks to certify, there is no market for minor die chips, when shows start up again dealers will have binders of these minor stuff for a buck or two and they rarely sell. The currency market is different if you have 1935 or latter in high grades, they are valuable, good luck !

You sure thats not just a stain of some sort? It looks level with the surface to me.
