I took this penny in yesterday to see if it was worth anything They said it had an error on reverse and some letters that made no sense to me. I had to pay 250 to the coin shop. They said they would let me know the final cost as soon as the apraisal and grading is done. They are going to apraise, grade, clean, and put it in a case. They took all kinds of pictures and had me sign every page. I printed off my pictures for them. They gave a guarantee it would be safe They have not given me the value if it. I would like to know what you might think.

What papers did you sign? Can you get your $250.00 back.? That is just a regular cent with no errors. Some one is just trying to take advantage of you.
In the future, please post your coins here for opinions before you do anything.

Looks like a minor Struck Through Grease error on 'PLURIBUS', but certainly not worth the cost of grading.

the are around the "E Pluribus Unum" along with the top of the 'O' in ONE Shows a weak strike - which is VERY common on Lincoln Cent coins that have a high relief bust on the reverse. You see the material gets moved to the bust to fill in the design and there is not enough to fill in the reverse design. Very, Very common.

Yikes, I really hope you can get your money back, definitely post the name of the shop so members can avoid it. Also what did they state the 250$ was supposed to cover? You could have had it professionally graded by PCGS or NGS for much much less then that, though it doesn't look worth grading fees at all.

Sorry you had a bad experience with a coin dealer. There are many, many reputable coin dealers who have spotless reputations. Unfortunately, it sounds like this one is not. As someone above stated, you are always welcome to post photos here. There are industry experts here (I'm not one of them!) who can give you an honest opinion for free.
