Seems to have been hit by a sharp object which has revealed the zinc under the copper.

Post-strike damage, not a mint error. Appears to have taken a hit in circulation.

I agree looks like damage--with a picture of the other side, we would look for flattening of the design immediately opposite to the gouge.
