This coin weighs 3.17 grams and is 25 mm in diameter. It looks like a Samanid Dirham, and I can read the date 354 very clearly. However, I am thrown off by the specific type of my coin which has a star on the obverse (as circled in picture). Any help with this attribution would be much appreciated!

Thanks! It would then have to be Buwayhid, A-1550.1 or A-1550E. Although, I still couldnt find any coins with a star in the same spot

I think I found a match (different year)- https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...=usd&order=0

Is that correct?

Yes, Album 1550.1, citing Rukn al'Dawla Abu 'Ali on the obverse. The reverse names the 'Abbasid caliph al-Muti' billah and the ruler al-amir al-'adil 'Adud al-Dawla Abu Shuja'. For something as minor as the star, you will need to consult Luke Treadwell's Buyid Coinage (2001).

Are you looking at Buyid Coinage: A Die Corpus (2001)? I'm surprised you didn't find your specific die pair.

Oh my apologies, I was looking at the "Catalogue of Buyid coins in the National Museum of Iran". It was available on from my college's academic library. Unfortunately the die study book is not accessible there or anywhere else I could find for free

I was excited thinking it might be on jstor! Oh, well. I bought a copy for a cataloguing assignment a couple of years ago but sold it afterward. Very useful if you have enough Buyid coins to justify the cost. It's literally a catalog of all known Buyid dies.

I have around ten Buyid coins, so I will probably not get the book right now but will keep it in mind for when my collection inevitably expands.

Thanks again for the help!
