I recently acquired a 10 centime piece dated 1816 with the portrait of a chubby baby Napoleon II, son of Napoleon I, dubbed "l'Aiglon". When Napoleon abdicated in 1815, this baby ruled for 2 days. The history of this little kid is fascinating and tragic (ended up dead of TB at age 21, virtually a prisoner of the Viennese court), with a post-mortem twist. Apparently, obsessed as he was by Napoleon, one of the first things Hitler did after taking Paris in 1940, was to order the remains of little little Napoleon moved from Vienna to les Invalides in Paris to mark the centennial of the moving of Napoleon I's remains. My question is whether this coin's date is real or whether the coin was struck, as some sources report, much later in the 1850s or 60s when the Bonapartes had their resurgence via Napoleon III? Anyone know?

Unfortunately I've found nothing in Krause Catalog about coins with Napoleon II. But I'm sure that about year ago I saw "5 Francs" with the portrait of Napoleon II (it was an Internet auction).
But now, when I was looking for some new informations, I've found that in 1874 minted coin with portrait of Napoleon IV...

There is something called "Pretender" coinage, I've seen some on online dealers' sites, they're not common of course but they can be found. If you post a photo it might be possible for us to tell whether what you've got is Pretender coinage or commemorative stuff made later in the century by Bonapartists (same gaggle of reactionaries who made medals commemorating his victories and death at different times in that century).

Thanks for your responses. It seems like it is most likely that the actual date is from the Napoleon III period around 1860 and that it was just struck as 1816. I do not have the abiity to take pictures but I found a similar coin at the following website (it is the same denomination but not my coin...).
