As a recap I'm reorganizing my entire collection into some 2x2's with proper notations. Way overdue.
I've got myself a 2003P Alabama State Quarter, that is UNC.I'm not going to try and grade it beyond that. There are some very minor bag marks on it, but there's tons of luster,no other wear and no hazing what so ever.It looks like it was stained with black tea, meanwhile there is shiny luster behind it. I hope you get the idea.
There does however seem to be the beginning of some nice light brown toning going on, the entire Obverse, and 1/2 of the reverse.
The coin has been inside a hard Mylar slider, for approx 4 yrs, and before that it was in a hard plastic coin tube at a dealer.
Once again, Do nickel plated coins tone? If so, have I now screwed it up by moving it into a 2 x 2? I used rubber edged tweezers to put move it today.
I'm wondering if the dealers hard plastic coin tube may have contributed to its colour, however I'm positive it never looked like this when I bought it from him.
I can't take a proper pic with this digital camera we bought on boxing day..I really wish I could take a pic. I always thought toning was more of a silver thing.
Thanks everybody!
Martin

No expert but most metals naturally tone, sometime very nicely, that would add value to a coin nickles included,i have seen some very nice nickles toned a great blue that commands a very nice premium over a none toned coin.

Why would a toned coin command a higher premium than a non-toned coin? It's just oxide.

Because some people will like the eye appeal factor and will pay extra for it,that's just my opinion.
