I found this online, and it is a beauty. However, there is a little bit of spotting near the Pluribus on the obverse and near the States on the reverse. Is that just the glare of the photo? Also, is a dmpl or a pl? I personally think this would grade at a 66 or 67 pl, what do you guys think about the grade?

Really can't judge from the photos provided. Too much light on the obverse possibly hiding any marks. Looks prooflike and looks like 66 minimum but need better photos.

Yeah sorry the seller did not take good photos. But, when I enlarged the pics, I could see the obverse a little more clearly, and it did not look like there were marks.

These look like doctored photos. I would not buy from these.

The coin photos look staged to have the coin appear prooflike. Do not buy the coin based on photos provided. The San Francisco mint in 1879 did an excellent job of putting out quality PL and DMPL Morgan examples. There are a lot of semi prooflike 1879 S coins on the market. A semi prooflike example with a little bit of photoshop can appear to be a high grade PL or DMPL. Best not to buy raw PL and DMPL coins from online photos. If you want a 1879 S prooflike Morgan, buy a NGC or PCGS MS64 PL that looks like a MS65 DMPL as you can get a high quality coin for your dollar. Buying TPG graded PL and DMPL Morgan can also be tricky because the mirror grading standards were inconsistent and changed over the years.

Oh this guy. Yeah, no, don't touch that thing with a 10 foot barge pole. He doctors his photos to make them "EXTRA DMPL+++ MEGA ULTRA MIRRORS 80+ METER MIRRORS ULTRA PROOFY MAGIC" blah blah. Once you get it in hand it'll be no better than a 63 and in no way prooflike. Seen this guy a million times. You can see how grainy the image is from how it's been altered.

I sure wouldn't buy based on these as others have said. Glare from the holder is causing the reflectivity, cranked up contrast is making it appear "better" than it almost certainly is in regards to it being DMPL. Doctored photos are a best case scenario. Always a chance the coins surfaces are also altered.

This has to be the *auctionkings* seller on ebay. They do this same doctoring to slabbed coins claiming they are under graded and actually PL/DMPL in the listing. I wouldn't ever buy a thing from them

Either fake or horrible photos. I'll call it AU details, possible counterfeit.

I have never purchased any coins from Austionkings. Interesting that almost all photos of seller's listings are juiced, but seller can still maintain the Top Rated Plus and 100% feedback with 4 negative responses. I did see one complaint that seller's deceptive photos were driving the auction price above the actual coin value. Unfortunately, the PL and DMPL Morgan is a strong target on ebay for seller's using deceptive photos to drive up prices.
