I found a 1975 D mint penny. This penny weighs 3.06 grams but the copper finish peeled off leaving a beautiful silver like tone that is not magnetic. Any ideas?

You are right. But if you use a wire brush on a copper coin. You still have copper coloring not silver.

The penny was plated and is peeling in areas showing the copper underneath. Scratch a silver area and see.

That copper layer was the top finish. It rubbed off. not the silver.

The copper coating wore off this penny revealing a beautiful shiny planchette of an unknown source. You can see on the obverse the reminence of the copper coating. The coin weighs 3.06 grams. That's within the allowable tolerance for the copper coin. However it is most certainly not copper. Any help from my council of wise men would be greatly appreciated.
