Recently inherited some coins from my gram. I followed the rabbit hole and here I am a few weeks later I'm hooked. lol

So she had a few coins in protectors. one says 1814 dime. which isn't possible with the design. Its in rough shape & its hard to make out the date. BUT on the reverse, theres what appears to be a double die.

Like I said it's in rough shape but it looks obvious to me. (you know obvious to the newbie).

Possible contemporary counterfeit dime. Weight would help determine.

Yeah, possible contemporary counterfeit, also this possibility of being dissolved in something. A Barber dime from 1914 here, range of Barber coinage is from 1892 to 1916, so 1814 date is impossible...

Looks like it has been acid etched which would account for the lighter weight.
