My friend just got this coin at a local coin shop. At first, I assumed it was just damaged, but when I looked more closely, I noticed that a crack extended through the planchet itself, well beyond the missing material at the rim of the coin. Could it be a cracked planchet error?

This it is a cracked planchet due to a wrong annealing, so the forces of the strike made the silver split. In the case of the silver we have three kind of those cracked.
