Hi and thanks for looking - here's my 1918 Illinois Statehood Centennial Half Dollar. I'm looking for opinions on grade. If you need close-ups, let me know.

You don't see many of these on the grading forum! I'll say AU-58.

I would agree that the coin shows slight circulation wear.

Am I seeing the same sorts of lines on the obverse as I did on the Pilgrim you posted?

There is something about the coin's surfaces that make me wonder about a potential history that involved cleaning...but it might be the lighting used for the image.

A few close-ups of the obverse... The 300kb image limit inhibits a closer look... hope this helps.

I'm not so sure these coins are cleaned after all. @Morgans_dad mentioned (in my other thread) that these halves didn't always have the best dies in the first place...

So I went over to PCGS and looked at their graded examples (https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...mages/9320). I'm seeing lots of very similar surfaces. Look at this example:

https://www.PCGS.com/cert/34617131

I see similar toning around the denticles and lettering and plenty of lines in the fields (ie: to the right of Lincoln's forehead).

Thoughts?

Classic dies.... Sweet 62 !!!!!! PS, Not all were the same. I'd liken the conditions to a Location, Having a more challenging environment, ie, moisture, Damp, Dirty. The New Orleans dies had similar issues, pitted die surfaces, located near Salty waters, especially Morgan dollar Dies..... Not the San Francisco Mint, In fact, The San Francisco Mints coins, In My Opinion, Struck Very Consistent, Crisp, Well Defined Detailed coins, Always. Thanks for Sharing....
