That is just the way the design is. There is no way that a letter can " move" during the striking of the coin. Also in the future, avoid using screen shots, they are too pixilated.

Regardless of what it is, it is damage to the coin. Just a spendable coin. Not a mint error.

The mint mark is plain as day. It's a 1996 P Washington quarter. So all 1996 P Quarters have a misaligned "I"? Nobody moved it. It came from the mint that way

@COOP: Please maybe you will have the time to put in your encyclopedia that the quarter are selected by varieties by the REVERSE and not by the OBSERVE.

Okay thank you guys for teaching me something knew. This is just something I do every now and then so I have not a clue like you guys do. Hence the reason I come to this site. And I'm sorry Jimmy all I can do is a screen shot. This isn't a true passion of mine. I wasn't trying to point out something you needed a microscope to see. But if you guys just want to be asses about it

@ mean07gene Yes I was short in my answer. I just put you a photos to compare your coin with the normal strikes. They are variations but not on observe. The best way to learn it is to compare your self the coin with the normal strikes. And welcome in this community and the field with no limits.

Is ebay a bad place to buy coins, like silver or error coins? I've only bought some wheat pennies and a couple silver mercury's. I don't buy from people that don't take returns. Would you guys buy graded coins from ebay?

I wasn't around in 1932 but I presume the gap is there to balance the word in the design. As for ebay, it is hit and miss. I think you might have better luck at a coin show or coin shop and would have a better experience. Personally, I prefer coin shows because there is generally more variety in one place. welcome
