Please help me with identification and what it's worth were I to sell it.

Really? You bought a Roman solidus without being sure of its attribution or what it's worth? Where did you get it? How much did you pay?

The legends indicate it is from Gratian. The bigger question is whether it is genuine. The surfaces look a bit funny. I would suggest going to wildwinds.com and seeing if you can get a match and what the weight is supposed to be. My "Sear" book does not describe a gold coin that looks like this.

@ bob L . I paid 1000 us dollars. It being gold has to be worth more, besides , one has to take some chances in life..

Lovely coin if genuine, I say that for one reason without it being certified we can't be sure. Outwardly IMO it looks good. The weight is right, and the strike also looks good. However without a certification I wouldn't take the chance.
