I have a 1984 penny no mint mark, but on the reverse side the bottom part of the S "on states" and the O "on of" are not raised. If you move the coin around you can see the official letters but only at an angle. Could this be a misprint and possibly rare and worth anything? Or are my eyes really playing tricks on me.....
Without photos, we are not going to be able to help. A large clear photo of both sides and a closeup of the area of concern would do nicely. Also coins are minted or struck. Banknotes are printed.
A common occurrence on Lincoln Memorial cents. Weak strike caused by the amount of material used on the Obverse to fill in Abe's bust does not leave enough to fill in the Reverse. Notice the word STATES also has weak areas.
A Grease Fill can cause this or there maybe an issue with a lack of weight for the planchet: Check the weight of your coin. That might be the issue. There is a lot of metal movement on the opposite side, so if the weight is short, then it doesn't fill these areas.
